Graduate Teaching Award
This award was established by the GSA to recognize outstanding service by teaching assistants and instructors who are graduate students at the University of Lethbridge. The maximum award is $500 and may be received once per degree level.

This award was established by the GSA to assist with registration and travel costs for full or part-time graduate students who are presenting at a nationally or internationally recognized conference within Canada or elsewhere. The maximum award is $500 per degree level. Six (6) awards are given out in Fall and Spring semesters, and twelve (12) during Summer semester. The student must be registered at the University of Lethbridge as a full or part-time graduate student at the time of the conference this award is to be applied to. The GSA reserves the right to partially reimburse students to cover the reasonable market value of the expenses. Reasonable expenses assume that you are shopping around and paying reasonable or fair market value for the items or services you are claiming. Applications can be submitted to the GSA office in Markin Hall, room 2041. Deadlines to submit are ongoing however your application must be received the semester prior to the beginning of the conference in which this award is to be applied to. Incomplete applications will automatically be rejected.
Student Service Award
This award was established by the GSA to recognize service by graduate students to the University of Lethbridge Graduate student population beyond research and teaching. The maximum bursary is $500 and may be received once per degree level. The student must be currently enrolled at the University of Lethbridge as a full or part-time graduate student, and not currently serving in a paid position within the GSA. Applications can be submitted to the GSA office in Markin Hall, room 2041. Deadline: April 1st. Incomplete applications will automatically be rejected.
GSA Research Bursary
This award was established by the GSA in recognition of the financial challenges faced by students to pay for research. This bursary is not meant to replace or supplement funding provided to students in their letter of offer, or for conference travel. The bursary is meant to help offset the ancillary costs of the graduate students' research (e.g. expendable research equipment, printing costs, publication fees) that would not have a reasonable expectation to be paid by the students supervisor. The maximum bursary is $500 per degree level. Applicants must be currently registered as a full or part-time student at the University of Lethbridge. Applications can be submitted to the GSA office in Markin Hall, room 2041. Deadlines: April 15th and October 15th. Incomplete applications will automatically be rejected.
Student Event Financial Assistance
The GSA has funding available to support its members in planning academic or social events. To be considered for financial assistance, an event must contribute to the advancement of the GSA’s mandate, applications must be received at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of the event. Incomplete applications will automatically be rejected.
General Information for Student Event Financial Assistance:
The GSA will consider funding applications on an individual basis. Any one group or individual may apply for this funding a maximum of one time per year (May-April).
Events at which alcohol or other controlled/regulated substances are available will not be funded.
Depending on the nature of the event, attendees may be required to sign waivers of responsibility before funding is provided.
The maximum amount that will be awarded for any event is the lesser of $500 or 50% of the budgeted cost of the event.
Payment will be made only upon the provision of receipts to the GSA.
One person associated with planning the event should take responsibility for communicating with the GSA and submit the completed application.
Emergency Bursary Fund
The GSA Emergency Bursary Fund was introduced in the 2010-2011 academic year. Each bursary is a non-repayable $500 grant, issued to current graduate students who require immediate assistance due to an unanticipated acute emergency. Emergencies include, but are not limited to financial shortfalls relating to: health issues, accidents, thefts, loss of possessions, fire, natural disaster, technological malfunctions, issues relating to your place of accommodation etc. Students may receive the award once per fiscal year (April 1 - March 31). Please note that applications should be dropped off to the GSA office in Markin Hall, room 2041. Incomplete applications will automatically be rejected.
